Eisriesenwelt Tour

The Eisriesenwelt, Hohenwerfen & Gollinger Waterfall Tour combines three of the most famous natural and cultural highlights in Salzburger Land.

Impressive waterfalls, the largest ice cave in the world and a medieval castle make this day trip particularly varied. The Eisriesenwelt cave system boasts enormous dimensions, extending more than 42 km deep into the mountain, making it the world's biggest ice cave. Exploring this vast underground world is a unique experience and true adventure, with imposing ice formations and monumental chambers open to the public for guided tours from May to October. The effort required to reach the cave is rewarded by breathtaking panoramic views over the Salzach Valley and the surrounding Alps during the ascent. Tour description

The tour starts at the Gollinger waterfallone of the most beautiful waterfalls in the region.
A short walk through the forest leads to powerful cascades.
Afterwards you visit the Eisriesenwelt Werfen. To reach the cave, you first drive along a 5 km long asphalt access road from Werfen to the car park next to the visitor center. From there, an easily walkable gravel footpath leads you to the cable car, which takes approx. 3 minutes to reach the cave entrance. The total visit time is approx. 3-4 hours, so it is recommended to book tickets online in advance to secure your entry and possible discounts. The tour requires a good level of physical effort, as you will need to climb approx. 1,400 stairs, including a climb of 700 steps to the highest point inside the cave. Sturdy footwear or good shoes are required for safety and stability, and visitors are strongly advised to wear warm clothing, gloves, and a hat due to the consistently low temperatures (below 0°C) inside the cave. The guided tour lasts about 75 minutes, covers a significant distance and length within the cave system, and provides scientific and historical facts about this natural wonder. The organized course of the tour ensures you discover the imposing ice formations and experience the unique adventure of exploring the cave's interior. Photography and filming are generally not permitted inside, and visitors are provided with traditional carbide lamps as there is no artificial light. The cave is open for guided tours from May to October and is closed in winter due to avalanche risk. The tour is suitable for children above a certain age (please check age restrictions before booking). The reward for your effort is a truly unique experience and breathtaking panoramic views from the cave entrance, making this adventure unforgettable. At the end we go to Hohenwerfen Castle. The castle towers high above the Salzach Valley and offers sweeping views of the surrounding mountain landscape. This combination makes the tour versatile and balanced.
